Background

Authorial Context: Sahil Bloom

Sahil Bloom is an American author, entrepreneur, and investor from Weston, Massachusetts, and his plan for developing fulfillment and increasing one’s “wealth” in five key areas is deeply informed by the diversity of his own life experiences. Bloom grew up in Weston and was raised by his father (a Harvard professor) and his mother (an entrepreneur). Bloom’s mother, Lakshmi Reddy, is originally from Bangalore, India, while his father, David E. Bloom, was raised in the Bronx and met Reddy by chance in a library at Princeton University. Bloom calls his parents’ marriage “an unlikely collision of two worlds” (“About Me.” Sahil Bloom). Growing up with a Jewish father and Indian mother gave Bloom a diversity of cultural and spiritual influences, and he uses his highly adaptable perspective to create widely applicable solutions for crafting a more fulfilling life. As he writes, “The impact of growing up with a mix of cultures, religions, and beliefs was profound” (“About Me”).

As a young man, Bloom dreamed of a career in professional baseball and was admitted to Stanford University on a baseball scholarship. He played for the university’s team, The Cardinal, as a Division 1 player before an injury forced him to reconsider his plans.
